Ascendant Business Solution's genesis extends back to 1995 when Mark Ferris and his partner started a business to provide services to foreign companies that were starting up or entering the Japanese market. It began with a 'one-stop' shopping service that included coordinating corporate registration as well as organization building on behalf of individuals and companies retaining affiliate professionals (lawyers and accountants). It gradually expanded its range of services by responding to issues and problems that the management of foreign affiliated companies encountered.

As a result, Ascendant eventually became an outsourcing service provider for bookkeeping and payroll processing. Gradually it expanded the breadth and quality of its services to include marketing strategy development, execution of advertising and sales promotion activities, assistance selecting and implementing IT systems via project management, as well as business strategy development.

Problem solving on behalf of foreign affiliated companies requires an understanding of the differences in expectations between non-Japanese executives and Japanese staff, and where they stem from. They may derive from diverse cultural backgrounds and differences in thought processes, or simply from misunderstandings caused by mistranslation and misinterpretation. Ascendant has successfully performed numerous problem solving and execution cases, bridging the gap that often occurs between companies or people of different origins or corporate cultures, by hiring bilingual individuals with multi-cultural global perspectives. This type of problem solving can only be achieved via frequent and thorough communication to gain understanding and acceptance from both parties. As a result, our consultants need to exert tremendous amounts of effort and energy. However, as consultants exert more intense commitment and effort they are amply rewarded by the gratitude they receive from clients, namely the non-Japanese executives and the Japanese front line managers.

Ascendant's dual service offerings, which combine outsourcing services for back office tasks that enables fixed personnel cost to be turned into variable cost, as well as business solution consulting services, is unique. In recent years the demand for both types of services has been increasing. As a result, our need to hire more individuals who desire to serve global corporations operating in Japan is consistently increasing. Naoto has also translated many books on management including "Wisdom of Teams" and "Real Change Leaders" by John Katzenbach, as well as "Ken Ohmae on Strategy".
